If Skylights Are Installed Incorrectly - You Have Wasted Your Money
Skylights are any form of clear acrylic or glass stretched across a portion of a buildings roof to allow light in. They come in all sorts of varieties, but are fundamentally a way of lighting and heating a room for free. The light shines through from the sky, lighting up your room far more effectively than a window, and Skylights heat a room using the greenhouse effect of letting heat in, but then letting it out again very slowly so that this heat collects in the room.
The installation of a skylight is important, as there are many factors to consider. The place where the Skylights sit on the roof is very important. There are parts of your roof that receive more light and heat than others. It is the installation crews job to calculate where this area is to make sure that you get the full benefit.
This is obviously important for getting the most out of your Skylights, but is also an important factor on where the light will be directed. It is not only the installing companies job to find the most optimum places on the roof, but they must also position it so that the room receives more light for a larger part of the day. It is all well and good if your skylight receives the most light from the sun but not so much if it is aimed at a sidewall. Ideally the beam wants to be directed as close to the centre of the room as possible, so that when the sun moves, so the beam does across the room instead of across the wall. With some installation companies, you will just get poorly lit walls and not much else.
Installation should also be done professionally. You should really check the companys you intend to use customer reviews and find out if any of your friends or co-workers have used the company before. The installation should be done by experts. The roofing tiles remaining should be professionally re-installed; the structure should be sturdy, durable and as close to airtight as possible. There should be as few (ideally none) places to pool water as possible.
The next part of installation is where heat will collect. If you are installing your Skylights in the attic then one side of the ceiling will be lower than the other. If your skylight is installed at the very top, then when the heat rises, it will have an escape route via the skylight. The same goes for if the skylight has a well. A well is a hole that goes up into the roof finishing with the pane of glass/acrylic. Ideally there should be a pane of acrylic or glass at the same level as the ceiling to so that no hot air gets trapped in the well and escapes. There should also be another pane at the very top, so that rain water does not get trapped in the Skylights well.
Finding Teaching Work Abroad
You may have recently qualified as a teacher and if you are finding it hard to get work then it might be an idea to consider applying for teaching jobs abroad. If you are already registered with a teacher recruitment agency but are still finding that work is hard to come by, then why not look for an agency that has a number of overseas jobs on its books.
The problem for newly qualified teachers in this country is that there are many jobs being cut and with a decline in subjects like modern languages, there seems to be less demand for teaching positions. Another problem is that some newly qualified teachers are finding it difficult to cope in many schools because of behavioural problems. The good news is that there are teaching positions available all over the world and some of these positions are quite lucrative.
There are thousands of schools all over the world looking for qualified teachers and if you do not have another language, you will be glad to know that there are jobs available in all of the English speaking countries all over the world as well as many English speaking schools in countries where English is the second language. If you have some experience teaching in the UK where English is the first language, then you will be considered to be a valuable commodity by these international schools. You will definitely have some amazing opportunities in front of you especially if you sign up with an international teacher recruitment agency.
Benefits of Teaching Abroad
If you choose to take up a teaching position in another country then you will find that you get to see some amazing parts of the world and meet some great people. There are new schools opening all over the world so you really do have your pick of the bunch. If you like the sun then you could apply for countries such as the Bahamas or the Seychelles for example. However, if you wanted to be a bit closer to home then there are bound to be opportunities in countries such as Germany and Switzerland or other countries in Europe.
Many of these schools in different countries are offering accommodation as part of the deal and the salaries are higher than they would be here in the UK. The great thing about teaching in foreign countries is that these international schools usually the best in facilities and the class sizes are quite small. This makes teaching a pleasure rather than a chore which is what it has become for some teachers here in the UK. The problem for a lot of teachers here is that they are just not aware of the opportunities that are available. There are a number of long term and short term positions available in international schools just waiting for teachers like them.

Trinkets, Photos, and British Recipes
I was just 12 years old when my grandmother died after a long fight with Parkinson's disease. My mother's mother was a kind lady who loved her grandchildren with all her heart, desiring nothing more than to have us visit so she could love on us for a few hours. My grandfather, a very private person, kept his bride's possessions hidden away after she died. But when he no longer could care for himself and we had to move him into an apartment, the treasures in his attic brought back memories of grandmother I had almost forgotten.
Nearly 20 years had passed since my grandmother's death, when we were in the attic sorting through things to be saved and discarded. We came across some boxes in the corner that were simply labelled "Emma", my grandmother's name. Opening those boxes and looking through their contents revealed to me both the woman I remember from my childhood, and the woman my mother remembered from hers.
Among the many findings were trinkets, photos, and a book of British recipes. The recipes were especially important to me because I knew my grandmother loved to cook. When she was first married she could hardly boil water. But she learned to cook for her new husband and future children, and by the time grandchildren came along, she had perfected her art. She took a specific interest in British recipes because that was her lineage.
As I read through the recipes, memories of Sunday afternoon at grandmother's house flooded my mind. I could almost smell the roast lamb and vegetables that permeated the first floor of their suburban home. I remembered sitting on her front porch playing cards with grandfather while my mouth watered from the aroma wafting out from the kitchen. I remember sitting down to eat with the entire family, 13 of us in total, and feasting on the banquet grandmother had prepared. But more importantly, I remember being together as a family. We laughed and joked, told stories, played games; we simply enjoyed one another's company. Those were happy times indeed.
I eventually put the recipes down and began thumbing through the photographs. I came across one picture of grandmother filling her candy dish. The dish was kept on a table and was always filled with mints when we came to visit, yet in true child-like fashion, it was always empty when we went home. That dish holds another special place in my heart because it reminds me of all the little things my grandmother used to do to make our visits special. She always went out of her way for us, even as she began her Parkinson's battle.
A New Age of Vinyl Flooring
Ask most people their opinion of vinyl flooring and it's a safe best you'll get a lot of negative reactions. That's because vinyl flooring products have historically been some of the ugliest things in the home construction industry. Combined with linoleum, which vinyl is often confused with, synthetic materials has long been the bane of many a flooring designer and installer.
Yet today's technology is changing the face of vinyl flooring from a cheap product reserved for the lower class, to one for the masses that rivals even the finest natural materials. It's no longer necessary to spend a small fortune for an elegant kitchen or dining room floor that looks good and is durable. One need only look around for a quality vinyl manufacturer.
Amtico is just one of the manufacturers taking advantage of today's market for simulated flooring. They have been in business since the 1960s, perfecting their patented techniques for creating the world's finest vinyl flooring tiles. Their hundreds of products, from simulated wood to stone to glass, have made Amtico an industry leader in vinyl flooring.
One of their most impressive products is an antique wood “plank” engineered to look like reclaimed flooring from an old house. The incredible detailing includes cuts and scratches, nail holes, and a patina finish that is absolutely unreal. And like all Amtico floors, the antique wood planks are guaranteed to not wear out for at least twenty years.
Some of the other things that can be done with vinyl include a simulated marble floor with slate inlays. Unlike the old vinyl and linoleum floors of days gone by, which came in long roles, modern vinyl flooring is manufactured as individual tiles or planks. With the simulated marble, you are laying the floor down in tiles, just as you would with real marble. The corners are bevelled so that you can insert the individual pieces of the slate inlay.
Even simulated glass and copper is no problem for a good vinyl manufacturer. Amtico makes a simulated wood floor with an intricate, patterned border around the perimeter. The outside edge of the border is defined by what appears to be a real copper strip. It even has that slightly shiny glimmer one normally expects with copper.
One of the best things about modern vinyl flooring is the ease of installation. The best manufacturers pre-cut and fit your tiles or planks right in the factory. The only think you need to cut yourself are the perimeter pieces. Installation is just a matter of applying a thin coat of adhesive and laying the tiles in place. It couldn't be simpler.
Home owners, a new age of vinyl flooring is here. I say, welcome.
